Getting an accurate visual display is certainly critical for Daimler AG designers, executives, and engineers. So at its facility in Sindelfingen, Germany, the producer of Mercedes cars and trucks has installed a visualization system for exterior and interior design review, analysis and presentation of either 2D or 3D images: up to 6 meters wide. Not surprisingly, the system, sourced from German firm Barco (www.barco.com) is called the six-channel “MegaCADWall.” It is based on the Barco 1080p HD, 12,000 lumen, three-chip DLP Galaxy NH-12 projector. There’s edge blending so that there are no blurry overlap zones; there’s constant light output so that there is uniformity in both color and brightness. Barco also provides a flat high-contrast screen. Orchestrating the display is the XDS-1000 display management system that integrates with Windows. Users can view a synchronous display of 3D stereo and 2D sources, or up to six 3D stereo sources simultaneously. This simultaneous viewing permits fast comparison of various designs. The display wall is controlled via a keyboard and mouse. In addition to which, they’re running a second display system at Daimler, which is run by a single NH-12 projector.
