Autodesk (www.autodesk.com) is adding AutoCAD to its software offerings native to the Mac OS X operating system. This isn’t to say that AutoCAD wasn’t available for Mac users before, but they had to run the Parallels Desktop add-on, which ran Windows on the Mac. Native Mac software hasn’t been offered by Autodesk for 18 years.
AutoCAD is said to take full-advantage of the Mac OS X processor, offering graphical browsing of design files with cover flow and multi-touch gestures on notebooks. The software also features an application programming interface (API) and flexible customization options to allow for tailor-built workflows, application development and adaption and custom configurations for settings. The AutoCAD 2011 for Mac is priced at $3,995, the same as the non-Mac version. Autodesk is also planning to launch an AutoCAD WS free mobile application for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.
