Schneider Adds Laser Scanners
Schneider Electric (schneider-electric.com)—a manufacturer of products for energy management including motors, relays and controllers—has recently installed four 3D laser scanning systems from Laser Design Inc. (laserdesign.com) within manufacturing plants in the U.S. and Mexico, supplementing other systems that it has in its network of facilities. Schneider chose the SURVEYOR FA series for three facilities because of its portability and use for tooling verification on plastic molded parts. The SURVEYOR FA scanning system uses an SLP-500 laser line scanning probe on a 7-axis FARO (faro.com) arm. Schneider is using Geomagic Qualify (geomagic.com) as their inspection software for making graphical comparisons between digital reference models. The fourth system is a SURVEYOR WS-2030 3D laser scanning system. It combines the Laser Design SLP-500 laser scanner with a high-accuracy German CMM for accurately scanning difficult shapes.
