After 9/11, Direct Dimensions was contracted to scan many of Washington, D.C.’s monuments, including the Lincoln Memorial, to digitally preserve national treasures in case the unthinkable happened a second time. The 3D scans proved valuable for Hollywood, as the studio behind the summer flick “Night At the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” borrowed them from the company to portray Abe Lincoln’s rise from from his memorial throne to the museum.

You have to sit through an ad, but the video from CBS Affiliate WJZ in Baltimore shows the crossover nature of 3D technology.
Thankfully, it appears Direct Dimensions did not have to conduct a scan Ben Stiller’s mug. We have a feeling that will be preserved whether we like it or not.
