Listen Up: High-End Audio Appealing
5. August 2011
Developers of audio systems ought to take note of a survey just released by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), which indicates that the demand for high-quality audio electronics is, well, high.
That is, 39% of consumers “with at least a moderate interest in audio”—we’re not talking those audiophiles here who shoosh you when you’re simply breathing—are willing to pay more for high-end audio equipment. Get that: Pay more. Better margins. (Assuming that it is done right.)
According to Ben Arnold, CEA’s senior research analyst, “Similar to HD and 3D video technology, quality audio is experiential, so we encourage consumers to do in-the-field research. Hearing the difference among superior audio products can effectively sway consumers to consider and purchase high-quality audio technology.”
These are Pioneer S-1EX speakers. They feature 3.5-cm beryllium tweeters, 14-cm magnesium midrange, and an 18-cm Aramid/carbon composite shell woofer. MSRP for the pair: $10,800
Which seems to indicate that beyond people acquiring MP3 players or listening to their tunes through an array of smartphones, listening to clean, crisp, rich, and other appropriate audio adjectives, sounds can make a difference.
