SAE Congress 2010

Date: Tuesday, April 13, 2010 - Tuesday, April 13, 2010

Location:

Description: SAE Congress - 2010 Technical Session Keynote: Aerodynamics Design Exploration and Optimization Presenter: Sandeep Sovani, Manager - Global Automotive Market Strategy ANSYS Inc.

With resurgent interest in fuel economy automakers are working aggressively to improve aerodynamic design of vehicles and reduce drag.

Vehicle shape changes targeted at drag reduction need to be balanced and optimized with other concerns such as styling and packaging constraints. Exploring the aerodynamic performance of a wide range of design alternatives allows the vehicle shape to be better optimized to satisfy all constraints involved.

Over the past several years computational methods have advanced to a point where it is now possible to perform large scale design exploration upfront in a vehicle program. The talk will review various such computational methods for aerodynamics design exploration and optimization.
