Blanc De Blanc 3D Printing
Although it probably doesn't have anything to do with the almost-coincident release of the remastered version of the Beatles The White Album, it is interesting to note that Z Corp. (zcorp.com), which is well known for its color printing capabilites for 3D models, has launched the ZPrinter 350, which is the company's first-ever monochrome printer.
That's right: monochrome, as in solid white.
This unit, which can be operated within an office environment with no extraordinary HVAC or other concerns, is about the size of a typical office copier, measuring 48 by 31 by 55 in.
In terms of its build capabilities, the printer has a maximum build size of 8 by 10 by 8 in. The layer thickness provided via the 304 inkjets is 0.0035 to 0.004 in. The resolution provided is 300 by 450 dpi. The vertical build speed is 0.8 in./hour.
The printer's MSRP is $25,900. While this is higher than some other office-friendly additive machines, Z Corp. says that because of a lower material cost, under $3/in³, from a total cost of ownership point of view, the ZPrinter 350 can be less costly over a three- to four-year run.
