High-performance CAM

The 2011 version of Geometric Technologies’ SolidWorks-based CAMWorks (camworks.com) CNC programming software features enhancements in automation, knowledge-based machining and tool path generation. New capabilities include:

• VoluMill: A milling toolpath plug-in for 2.5- and 3-axis roughing operations that creates efficient toolpaths for effective machining. It’s especially useful for machining prismatic parts and complex shapes. Cycle times are reduced up to 80%, programming times are reduced up to 50% and tool life is increased by 500% compared to conventional CAM software.
• ElectrodeWorks: This module automates all aspects involved in the design of electrical discharge machining (EDM) electrodes, which is especially useful in the mold and die industry.
• Feature Recognition: Compared to the previous release, it automatically finds more areas to be machined and its computation times are 50% faster.
