The Syreen’s design allows several syringes to clip together in a pack while the polymer plastic container surrounding the instrument acts as a layer of packaging, eliminating the need for secondary packaging materials such as cardboard and Styrofoam.

The Syringe That Rhymes with “Green”

Economy meets ecology with the “Syreen” syringe, a pre-filled drug delivery device from Cambridge Consultants (cambridgeconsultants.com). It’s made from a cyclic olefin polymer (COP) plastic, rather than the glass used for typical syringes, and its durable build eliminates secondary packaging: the device not only provides the dosing for injections, but each is a stand-alone package.

It’s made from a cyclic olefin polymer (COP) plastic, rather than the glass used for typical syringes, and its durable build eliminates secondary packaging: the device not only provides the dosing for injections, but each is a stand-alone package. Consequently, this reduces packaging weight by 30% and volume by about 50%.

Several features make the Syreen safe for self-administration. A curved surface over the needle keeps the syringe from rolling across the skin surface and a separated plunger and stopper limits intake of contaminants, reducing the risk of cross infection.
