EOS was founded in 1989 and is today the world leading manufacturer of laser-sintering systems. Laser-sintering is the key technology for e-Manufacturing. The technology manufactures fast, flexible and cost-effective parts directly from electronic data. e-Manufacturing accelerates product development and optimizes production processes.

With its EOS PEEK HP3 material, EOS has made the first ever high-performance polymer available for use in laser-sintering. Products manufactured in this material achieve tensile strengths of up to 95 MPa and a tensile modulus of 4,400 MPa.
Laser-sintering adds flexibility to both product development and manufacturing. The designer no longer has to subject his creativity to the limitations of conventional methods of manufacturing.
The technology fuses metal powder into a solid part by melting it locally using a focussed laser beam. The parts are built up additively layer by layer. Highly complex geometries are created directly from 3D CAD data in just a few hours.
[Editor’s note: This is a continuation of a series started in the last issue of Time Compression that provides information on the various types of additive manufacturing processes.] Laser sintering (LS) is a process that has grown in popularity for making strong plastic parts.
Developments in rapid tooling make this technology even more attractive for quick, low-cost, customizable, and even environmentally aware manufacturing.
The resolution of eight lawsuits paves the way for improved competition and a stronger industry.
